Minor Setback
I decided that I will contact my local library to start a teen book club. I read a lot; like 12-14 books a month. I thought that maybe I could inspire others to read. Take a break from the videos, television, put down the games and cellphones and open a book that will inspire growth and broaden their horizons. Twilight and The Hunger Games has opened a lot of doors and inspired teens to start reading when I was afraid that the concept of reading was lost; people just don't find it interesting anymore and it hurts me. I gathered my courage and I went ahead and called my library and presented them with my idea. After speaking to the lady in charge of the Young Adult department and explaining to her that I wanted to volunteer my time one Saturday a month and create a book club for teens she explained that she would have to talk to her director and she would call me back. I got a call back the next day and was told that only library personnel is able to head a book club, after I felt defeated I decided this will not stop me and I called my little cousins and told them what I wanted to do and they were extremely excited and are now looking for teens that enjoy reading. I will not let this defeat me as I still plan to change the world one chapter at a time.

Looking Back
It's a few days after the election and President Obama has won. So when I got up on Wednesday morning and went to work I found out I was working with 5/6th graders as I walked into the building the children were so happy that Obama was able to remain in office for another 4 years. I work at a school with a diversity of students that no one would believe and it made me wonder...when does race start to become a problem? We grow up unaware of the color of the skin of our friends. We grow up and we love everyone despite everything else, and to see the children talking to each other about how Obama is the best man for the job not because he's black but because these children watched the debates. These children listened and decided on a president that represented what they wanted to become and the things that they want to accomplish as they get older and I thought that was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

My Bright Idea
While I was at work on Monday listening to the 7/8th graders talk I realized these kids spend too much time in front of the television watching reality shows with no substance. Then it hit me; the way that I love to read I should start a Young Adult or YA book club that will allow kids and teens to read books that are interesting and full of characters that will help them to develop their minds by allowing them to build a world by reading books. Books are able to help comprehension which helps develop the mind to understand so much more. There is a generation out here that would watch Love and Hip Hop instead of picking up a book and this idea is lost on me. My mom always read to me and then once I learned I was quick to pick up a book. I still read with a passion and I know that I can share that with many kids. Contacting my local library to start a book club would be awesome because I know all it takes is one phenomenal book to make you want to read. I can't wait to expand the minds of children and teens everywhere.

Me Myself & My Life
Let me tell you a little about me. I am 28 and my dream is to become a teacher. Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to work with kids; no matter how much it paid or didn't pay it has always been my dream. I use to play school teacher with my little sisters and cousins during summer vacation just to make sure they were learning. I ventured off of my path and graduated with a degree in Accounting and when I seen that wasn't getting me anywhere I decided that I would follow my dreams and do what I was set out to do. Reading is my favorite past time, I can read a book a day; that is when I'm not substitute teaching or taking care of my husband. This is going to be a blog about accomplishing my dreams because I want to inspire kids to feel how I feel about books; show them that books are a way to build a world and dream.
This will be a blog about my journey, the mistakes I make along the way, the things I do to bypass time, and my passion to follow my dreams.
